Sanwo-Olu Suspends Media Aide Over Controversial Social Media Comments

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Wale Ajetunmobi, over controversial remarks made on social media. The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.

The suspension followed a post on Ajetunmobi’s personal “X” account, where he claimed that those involved in setting fire to a media house during the 2020 #EndSARS protests had been “tracked down and executed.” In the since-deleted post, he stated that “most of them have been tracked down and executed,” also mentioning an alleged incident involving a boy found with an AK-47 at the scene.

When asked for clarification, Ajetunmobi defended his comments, describing the event as a clash between soldiers and suspected arsonists, which led to casualties during an exchange of gunfire. He denied suggesting the occurrence of extrajudicial killings.

Reacting to the remarks, Akosile reaffirmed the administration’s stance against extrajudicial actions, stating, “This is not reflective of who we are or what we represent.”
