The former governor of Akwa Ibom State and current Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has addressed rumors circulating that officials from the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken control of the National Assembly to prevent his impeachment.
His response was reported in a statement published by Timeless Update on Wednesday.
Responding to the claims, the Senate President clarified that the DSS has not taken over the National Assembly, calling the reports false.
Akpabio expressed frustration, stating there seems to be no limit to what online platforms are capable of publishing. He emphasized that the issue of impeaching principal officers was never on the agenda.
He was quoted as saying:
“There is no limit to what online publications can claim. This is complete fake news. The impeachment of principal officers was never raised, and we are all present in the National Assembly without any issues. I understand that they can activate AI tools, and soon fake news will start trending to drive traffic, which I’m sure is happening with this story.”
