The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported yet another incident of critical infrastructure vandalism, with the Shiroro-Katampe transmission line becoming the fifth target in February and March this year.
According to TCN, vandals have damaged towers along the transmission line and stolen conductors, disrupting operations and posing a threat to the nation’s electricity supply.
TCN is currently mobilizing efforts for conductor replacement while ensuring security measures are in place at the site. Despite the setback, the second line remains fully operational, transmitting at maximum capacity to Abuja, alongside the Gwagwalada line serving the Kukwaba-Apo axis.
In a bid to bolster its capacity to serve Abuja and surrounding areas, TCN highlights the upcoming Lokoja-Gwagwalada transmission line as a crucial addition.
Describing the vandalism as sabotage, TCN calls upon security agencies and local communities to collaborate in apprehending the perpetrators and safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure.
