Shockwaves reverberate through Ikot Ekang, a serene enclave nestled in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state, as locals grapple with grief and mourning.

The solemn mood descends following the tragic and vicious killing of Apostle Elisha Asuquo, the esteemed founder of the Mount of Solution Redeemed Church (MSRC).

Armed assailants raided the National Headquarters of the Church around 7:30 pm during the weekend, interrupting an ongoing Parish gathering and tragically claiming the lives of two religious leaders, Apostle Asuquo and Pastor Aniekan Ibanga.

Eyewitnesses report that the attackers arrived on a motorcycle, swiftly executing the crime before fleeing via Abak-Ikot Ekpene Federal Highway.

Apostle Asuquo, engaged in a delicate marital reconciliation matter, was fatally targeted, while Pastor Aniekan Ibanga also succumbed to the assault. The tragic event has stunned the community, with many struggling to comprehend the unprecedented brutality.

“At around 8 p.m., I was participating in a church program when I received a call informing me of the shooting deaths of Prophet Elisha and his Pastor. While still on the call, another individual entered and informed me of the killings,” recounted Bishop John Jeremiah Kpongkpong, expressing his shock.

Chief Christopher Udotim, representing Ikot Obio Ikpa Village, and Mr. Alphonsus Alphonsus Okoro, the Youth President, conveyed their profound sorrow and stressed the importance of inter-village collaboration to investigate the appalling crime.

The Village Head of Ikot Ekang acknowledged the severity of the situation, urging law enforcement agencies to redouble their efforts in apprehending the perpetrators.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Odiko MacDon, affirmed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a comprehensive investigation, assuring that the perpetrators will face justice.
