In a heartbreaking turn of events, a woman from Ede, Osun State, identified as Mrs. Folakemi, has passed away after declining a free operation to remove her debilitating goitre in favor of N300,000 cash.
Mrs. Folakemi, who had long suffered from the condition, was offered free medical treatment by a compassionate medical team. However, she opted to receive the raised funds instead of undergoing the surgery.
Upon returning to her village in Osun, Mrs. Folakemi hoped for government assistance after her story garnered attention through a viral video. Despite promises of support, no aid was forthcoming.
