Why El-Rufai Isn’t Power Minister: “Myopic Politics Clears Average Joes” – Dr. Segun Showunmi

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figure Dr. Segun Showunmi has raised concerns about the absence of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai from the role of Minister of Power.
Showunmi’s comments come in response to a report from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) indicating that power outages in the northern region will continue due to security issues hampering repairs on vital transmission lines.
According to DAILY TRUST, the PDP chieftain emphasized that El-Rufai’s experience and background in governance should have made him a suitable candidate for the Ministry of Power, arguing that his previous administrative experience would have equipped him to tackle the complex issues facing the ministry, particularly in light of the current crisis.
“One needs to know why Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is not the Minister of Power given the serious level of background work. I know for a fact he had done it before,” Showunmi stated.
The PDP chieftain lamented the tendency to overlook qualified individuals in favor of less competent candidates, describing it as a “myopic approach to governance that hampers progress.”
“Our brand of myopic politics would not clear him but in their wisdom clears jokers and confirmed average Joes,” Showunmi said.
