President Bola Tinubu was warmly welcomed in London by His Majesty King Charles III at Buckingham Palace for a private discussion.

 

The meeting on Wednesday underscored the long-standing and valued relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

 

This was the first meeting between the two leaders since their last encounter in Dubai at the COP 28 Climate Summit last year.

 

According to a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the latest meeting was initiated at King Charles’ request.

 

The statement noted, “Both leaders engaged on global and regional issues of mutual concern, with a focus on the pressing and intricate challenge of climate change.

 

“President Tinubu and His Majesty also examined collaborative opportunities in preparation for the upcoming COP 29 Summit in Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.

 

“President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s strong commitment to tackling climate change in alignment with the country’s energy security goals and emphasized Nigeria’s willingness to embrace global strategies for sustainability.

 

“During their discussion, the leaders exchanged ideas on innovative climate financing solutions and expressed a shared interest in enhancing partnerships by leveraging Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa and the Commonwealth.”
